Normally Abnormal

Ok, this isn't going to be my normal topic, at least I don't plan on it, but today I felt like writing about people. Lately I've been noticing a lot about human connection. The way we form bonds with each other. Little things that create sparks between two people. I'm not just talking about romantic sparks either. I mean, how else do you describe that feeling when you just connect with someone. You're having a conversation with someone you may barely know or may have just been introduced to and suddenly you both say something that triggers a feeling of understanding, belonging, and community. It's fascinating. I've been trying to pinpoint these moments lately as I've been given the wonderful opportunity to meet a large group of new individuals all at once.
This semester at college I started a new major in theater. Transferring to the new department has been a wonderful experience full of these small and endearing exchanges. For me there have been about ten of these a day. I know that one of the elements adding to this is the fact I'm now in the department of my calling. I realized I'm just meant to be involved in theater and I'm thriving so I have a lot in common with these people and am flourishing. However, I've noticed also that it's not just me. I can sit for hours in the 'Green Room' and just observe people quietly from a corner as they converse with friends they've known for a couple years or more now and still have these moments of discovery. Humans are beautiful things constantly creating and this is just an example of that.
We discover things with each other socially that help us form bonds that we can feel whether we know it or not. We thrive on it. We can't sit idly by just waiting to be happy and gain knowledge. We have to interact and connect and create with others a strong foundation upon which to build our lives. It defines who we truly are. We are the sum of our interactions with each other. The more we experience the more likely we are to show our true selves and let others in. Whether it's a conscious decision or otherwise, it's bound to happen. Why not, we've got nothing to lose in the end.
Live, learn, love, and then you'll truly live.
